Ren’s Rescue was founded in 2014 to care for domestic animals. During our first five years, we helped heal and rehome several hundred animals from a small house in the centre of Hull.
In 2018 we moved to Keyingham, in East Yorkshire and continued to work with domestic animals but with an ever-increasing number of requests to help with wildlife. The following year we registered as a charity.
As time went it became clear that the biggest need in our area was for wildlife and we slowly changed our focus to their care. We had already undertaken training in caring for bats and for hedgehogs and had a few years practical experience caring for them. Gradually we extended our knowledge so that we could help a wider number of species and to date, we have helped badgers, foxes, gulls, pigeons, deer, wild rabbits & hares, corvids, birds of prey and an assortment of smaller, garden birds.
in 2020 we acquired the use of 11.5 acres of land in Winestead, where we keep our rescued sheep and pigs and where we hope to move the rescue to, subject to planning consent.
We will always remain indebted to Hull Hedgehog Hospital, Vale Wildlife Hospital and Secret World Wildlife Rescue for all their training, advice and support they have given us in both the care of wild animals and the management of a larger rescue.
Of course, our work is constrained by the number of volunteers we have and the funds we raise.
In terms of funding, we have always aimed to be as self-sufficient as possible and to date have opened two shops in Hull, one in the City Centre and the other on Holderness Road. Other income comes from grant-giving trusts, donations and some fabulous fund-raisers run by our supporters.
We are always looking for new volunteers. At the moment our greatest need is for help in our shops and to help with maintaining the land and keeping everything clean and tidy. If you would like to volunteer then please visit our Volunteer Page
